Boonmee Lab is leading the Data and Intelligence Lab of the Public Policy Development Institute (IPPD) established under NESC in 2018, and aims to develop a data-driven, bottom-up public policy that can seek future national policies.

The goal of this project was to disclose data related to public infrastructure, nature, and etc. in Thailand so that anyone can easily access and analyze it. Geographic dashboards were used because the analysis based on geographical area or political boundaries was easy to understand.

Understanding GDP, population, or population density in terms of country level is so broad that it is not very helpful in the policy development process where lots of detailed information is required. The core idea of the IPPD Map was that if this information can be thought of by breaking it down as small as one square kilometer, more clear problem recognition and resolution will be possible.

Why is IPPD Map so special?

Width - More data

You can view a variety of data from different institutions in one place. Green space, flood, PM2.5, population, surveys, and more.

In general, basic GIS knowledge is required to understand these maps. Also, a map from an organization is limited to that the data that. For example, a map of an agency that has information on the frequency of wildfires across the country does not include survey results about the impact of wildfires felt by people in the area. IPPD Map allows users to derive diverse insights by expressing data from two organizations on wildfires on a single map.

This public map can facilitate collaboration between cities and further reduce centralization of the metropolitan area. \

Depth - More detailed analysis

We divided Thailand into 500,000 regions and included 200 data sets for each region. It means more detailed and deeper analysis is possible.

In addition, when you select an area on the map, it provides data visualization that represents basic data. Data visualization and analysis within the IPPD Map through charts and graphs on the right panel are possible without using any other analysis software without additional technical knowledge.

Speed - Get things done faster

The time spent on data analysis was reduced through the process of applying new data to the IPPD Map. Whereas 80% of the time had to be spent collecting and organizing data to get usable data, IPPD Map reduces data preparation time, allowing more time to be spent on analysis.

In addition, since the IPPD is in charge of maintaining and managing the map, it has a great advantage of not burdening the company.

The more the IPPD works with more government agencies, the more data is applied to the map to create a more precise map. This map can be the basis of the infrastructure for governments and private companies to understand the situation in Thailand. We hope that each agency can devote more time and effort to the development of various policies through this Map.

In this project, Boonmee Lab served as advisory, advisory and overall project advisor to the IPPD and the National Statistical Office.
